Medical school student Amanda Garrett and American doctors working secretly in Africa have found a cure for the Ebola and Human Immunodeficiency Viruses. Leaders of the Islamic State want the cure so they can show the world Islam is a benevolent religion that all Africans should follow. The President of the United States believes an alleged 30,000-year-old Sub-Saharan religious text called The Book of Catalyst identifies him as being of divine origin. As Amanda operates her portion of the clandestine CIA Project Nightingale in a Tanzanian orphanage, she is attacked and chased by brutal killers called The Leopard and The Cheetah. Amanda has 48 hours to escape across the Serengeti Plain before the remaining vials of the cure expire. The Islamic State escalates attacks across the Middle East using freshly converted fighters from Africa. The American President, however, chooses not to deploy sufficient troops to save U.S. Special Forces, including Amanda's husband, assisting in the air war against ISIS. As Amanda attempts to save the rapidly decomposing formula for the Ebola and HIV cures, she finds herself at the center of a clash between warring media titans, Jonathan Beckwith and Zhor al Rhazziq, who are following her every step toward the Olduvai Gorge, which some scientists claim to be the origin of human life.

A thrilling, fast-paced way to start 2015 -- you don't want to miss this!
By Meredith Foster
Combining the modern day global events of Ebola and ISIS with unique elements of fiction, “Mortal Threat” is a highly fast-paced thriller that draws the reader in and challenges their intellect on many fascinating levels.
In the fourth book of the Threat series, AJ Tata continues the legacy of the Garrett family by featuring daughter Amanda as the lead heroine who is feverishly working at an orphanage in Africa on discovering the cures for HIV/AIDS and now the deadly Ebola disease. Amanda Garrett brings a fresh of breath air to readers. As a young med student whose compassion for her research and for those in the orphanage, Amanda’s characteristic traits draws readers to admire her persona, but deep within Amanda is the daring “Garrett” side full of determination and success that mirrors her father and uncle.
The storyline in “Mortal Threat” is very realistic, particularly with the ever growing presence of ISIS and Ebola in this modern day world. With the help of two lead orphans, Amanda Garrett closes in on her cure for these dreaded diseases, but radical groups seek to destroy her attempts. Can she succeed and help those in the village? Will she find the ultimate cure for HIV/AIDS and Ebola? Or will she succumb to these groups?
“Mortal Threat” brings many issues to light that makes the reader question could these fictional aspects really be taking place in this modern day world – could there be a possible cure for HIV/AIDS, Ebola or any disease, for that matter, that is close to being found (or possibly has been) that governmental regimes seek to suppress? Could these radical groups be some type of ploy inspired by third parties? Does a 'mortal threat' really exist in this present society? Many questions to ponder that could lead to potential governmental conspiracies – a definite intellectual challenge!
Buckle up and hold on for the ride because readers will not want to put this book down! Even with all the intrigue featured, there is an additional twist in “Mortal Threat” that also dares readers to potentially have more of an open-mind when it comes to religious interpretations. (You’ll have to read more to find out!)
Tata has done another remarkable job of making the reader feel a part of the book, as well as imploring the reader to expose himself to other possibilities that may or may not exist in this world. A challenging and thrilling read to kick-start 2015!

Another great addition to the Threat series . . .!
By Judy Peppler
I have read all of the books in the Threat series and this is the best one yet! Amanda Garrett is a kick ass heroine that uses her smarts and strength to stay one step ahead of the bad guys as she moves across Africa trying to meet up with her dad and uncle, the Garrett brother heroes from the previous Threat books. It is a quick read that you won't want to put down, with topics ripped from the headlines -- a possible cure for HIV and Ebola and media moguls trying to manipulate public opinion on Islam and spurring support for radical groups. It all combines to form an exciting nail-biter that will leave you wanting more! Another excellent read by A J Tata you won't want to miss!!

Fascinating blend of medical, political and religious plotting
By David Csaba
I found this book fascinating. The creative plot of ISIS attacking a medical student to steal the cure for Ebola struck home on many levels. In the wake of the horrific terror attacks in Paris and the Je Suis Charlie movement, this book resonated very well with me. Given the crisis of the Ebola outbreaks and pathogens in general, Tata has found a unique niche with this story. ISIS attacking a secret CIA project to steal the formula that could save Africa and potentially the world from disease is so different and much better than the books we see that have a bio threat and the hero saves the day. This book was unpredictable in every good way. With the ancient sub-Saharan Book of Catalyst woven into the storyline, I got the sense that this was an African Da Vinci Code, but better. Dan Brown focused on actual known Biblical texts. Tata focuses on the intriguing concept of “what don’t we know about?” Why has sub-Sharan Africa been excluded from religious writings when all evidence indicates life originated there? And the backdrop for the story in stunning. The Serengeti Plain. The Laetoli footprints, the Olduvai Gorge and possible a scripture hidden from mankind mixed perfectly with the science of curing diseases. The action drives you through to the end. I could't put it down once I started reading it. And I enjoyed the preamble to this author’s next book, Foreign and Domestic.
