With a nose for trouble, Agnes learns some of the residents are being robbed, over-medicated, and denied basic cable and Internet access. Armed with nothing more than seventy-one years of common sense and a knack for pushing people's buttons, Agnes sets out to expose the unscrupulous administrator, protect her new friends, and restore Sweetbriar Manor's reputation as a "rewarding and enriching lifestyle. But the real moment of truth comes when Agnes is forced to choose between her feisty self-reliance and the self-sacrifice that comes from caring for others.

Carol Heilman, a coal-miner s daughter, married a farmer s son, her high school sweetheart, over fifty years ago. She and her husband live in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Their children and grandchildren live near the east and west coasts where they often visit. Carol enjoys traveling, reading, writing, hiking, and cooking for friends. Hooray for Agnes Hopper and author Carol Guthrie Heilman. Wonderful story that I read straight through. You had me hooked from the first page with the red purse and the morning glories growing on strings on the front porch. Loved, loved this book. Looking froward to more stories about Agnes and her new friends! Thank you.

Delightful!

If I was Agnes' daughter, I wouldn't let her out of my sight. She is so entertaining, insightful, and spunky. Carol Heilman weaves a story about retirement homes, the "guests", and the people who are in charge in a way that you HAVE to find out what happens in the next chapter. I laughed out loud and cried a little, too. It made me think about my own mother's future and her welfare. Looking for more of Agnes Hopper's adventures!

Yippee for Agnes!

I just read the first few pages on the online "Open here" and I can't wait for my copy to arrive in my mail box. Agnes pulls you into her new life with a touch of sarcasm and a "chip on my shoulder" attitude. You empathize with her immediately while you chuckle at her wit. I stopped reading because I want the full flavor when I receive my own copy. It will get passed to friends and find a home in my church library later. Get your own copy. You won't be sorry!
