Book 3: The Target
Death is coming. But for who?
Eddie and Liam had three things in common: being killers, being loners, and hating each other.
Now they share one more thing: they're partners.
The two assassins had been pretty sure that their boss wants them dead. Instead, they're told they're now part of a team, and their first assignment is to eliminate a witness.
Old and young butt heads as they set to the task, but neither one of them knows that the worst is yet to come…
The third in an exciting series, “The Target” keeps the intrigue and mystery coming as our protagonists face-off against their biggest threat yet. With their lives on the line, they must band together...or die.
-- The Assassins series --
They'll nail any target...if they don't kill each other first.
Readers who enjoy suspenseful crime fiction with some dark humor and irony are sure to enjoy The Assassins, a series that show the “bad” guys can be fun and thrilling to read about.
In the vein of LT Ryan’s Jack Noble series and Remington Kane’s Tanner books, action-packed The Assassins series introduces readers to Eddie and Liam. Fans of anti-heroes from early Tarantino movies like Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs will enjoy riding along with these two gritty hitmen.
Warning: this material contains strong language and, violence and thematic elements that may be disturbing to some readers. Recommended for mature audiences only.

Hits the Bullseye
By Silver Screen Videos
NOTE: One of the authors graciously provided me with a copy of the book and requested that I write a review.
The mismatched partner scenario has been a staple of detective fiction for decades but P. J. Mercedsen and Quentin Rodriguez have put an entertaining spin on the genre in their series, "The Assassins." Instead of bickering cops or detectives, Eddie and Liam, the protagonists of this series, are hitmen who definitely don't see eye to eye. The problem they face is that they have to keep working together, and they're in a line of work where failure is punished by a bullet in the head rather than a boot out the door. And the way this series is going, they seem to be playing a game of Russian roulette in every book.
According to the authors, "The Assassins" is a novel that's told in the form of a series of shorter novella-length books that are offered separately for sale on Amazon. The current volume, "The Target," is the third in the series (and the third that I've read). The two main characters in the series are nearly complete opposites. Eddie is the old pro, an actual grandfather who's quite cautious and low key and believes in careful research and planning before going on a job. He's also very much a 20th century kind of guy as far as technology is concerned. Liam, on the other hand, is a young, brash impetuous showoff who is likely to shoot first and think about it later. However, he's got far more technical savvy than Eddie. Both of them are sharp in their own way but reluctant to credit the other.
Although the two were originally independent, their boss now has them working together and has assigned them a third member of their team, James, their cleaner. Their latest assignment is quite tough. A loser of a college dropout witnessed Eddie and Liam's boss ordering a murder and the kid plans on testifying against the boss. So, Eddie and Liam are given the assignment of finding and eliminating the witness. Finding him proves fairly easy, but he's being held by U.S. Marshals in a safe house, and Eddie and Liam will have to find a way of getting past a ton of well armed bodyguards with up-to-date surveillance equipment to complete their mission.
"The Target" is told in alternating chapters from the viewpoints of Eddie and Liam, so readers get to learn their thought processes and, more important, their dislikes of each other, quite well. Of course, both of them have somewhat different approaches to the the job, so their thought processes run in different directions. The thought processes themselves are quite interesting as they both (Eddie more than Liam) approach the mission as a job whose details need to be worked out. And when those details do get worked out, there's plenty of action.
Although most people will probably read "The Target" after having read the first two books in the series, the authors do a good job of incorporating the backstory into this book without tacking on a lot of wordy explanations that slow the action down. Newcomers can pick up the action fairly easily without feeling lost. In that regard, the book reads more like a later Sherlock Holmes story rather than one of the later books in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. The ending also is a bit of a cliffhanger, but it resolves the main storyline, not in the way some readers might have hoped, but in a manner that maintains the dramatic integrity of the book.
What I've been impressed with most as I've gone through "The Assassins" is the way in which the authors keep the tension between the characters fresh. Eddie and Liam still have pretty much the same complaints about each other as they did in the first book, but the authors manage to tweak the formula and add some new wrinkles to it to keep the rivalry fresh, instead of it seeming like people saying the same thing over and over. They've also developed the main backstory gradually. There's more going on here than just two bickering hit men; they fit into the mob boss's big picture in some unspecified way that's becoming a bit more complicated as the series progresses. However, the here and now of "The Target" is the individual job, and the authors have done a good job of describing how the hit progresses. This is a highly entertaining series that keeps readers looking ahead while, at the same time, letting Eddie and Liam take care of things in the present.

I loved this latest in the series
By Saintly1
I loved this latest in the series. Eddie and Liam are thrown together into a team to take care of some business for the boss. They are given another new member of the team, James the cleaner. This new team is a concept for Eddie and Liam to try to grasp and get their job done. A lot of fast-paced action takes the guys into new territory for them. They have to learn to rely on each other and begin to respect each other a little. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Another winner in the Assassins series of adventure.
By John H. Kuhl, CPCM
A great fan of this series, I didn't think three met the same level of the first two. However, the literary efforts of P.J. Mercedsen & Quentin Rodriguez still provide the reader an excellent novel and enjoyable reading experience. Keeping in mind it's a 5 novel series, you can't miss any part of this great series.
Sincerely,
John H. Kuhl, CPCM
