KIRKUS REVIEW:
All's fair in love and war in Kramer and Mincer's witty new novel.
Lucy Bennett is a tough, no-nonsense divorce lawyer. Her firm, Bennett & Birnbaum, is filled with smart and tenacious women who go the extra mile for their clients, even the high-maintenance ones. And Skippy Brockhurst, a wealthy divorcée, is about as demanding as they come. Lucy represented Skippy in her divorce from Everett Brockhurst, a rich yet troubled playboy. This time around, Skippy fears their young son, Beau, is in danger. Her former lover Gary believes Beau may be his and demands a DNA test to confirm his suspicions. Lucy reluctantly wades into the complicated lives and politics of the affluent Brockhurst family once more, assuring Skippy that they'll protect Beau from any outside threats. Yet a sudden accident changes the nature of the custody battle, and Lucy finds herself representing the charming and sincere Gary in a messy family dispute. The powerful Brockhursts stand behind Everett despite his clear incompetence as a father. Skippy's sister Georgina has troubles of her own at home. The situation is made more complicated by a meddling housekeeper and the scores of other challenging clients Bennett & Birnbaum must manage in between dealings with the Brockhurst family. Mincer and Kramer, who clearly know the ins and outs of matrimonial and family law, present a likable cast of lawyers and an amusing group of interesting (and frequently crazy) clients. Lucy comes across as genuine, honest and determined, the type of idealized lawyer that often appears in the world of fiction. She adeptly handles her clients and colleagues at work, though the demands in her professional life present a challenge to maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Those juggling career and family can relate to the missed lunches, last-minute shopping trips and mad dashes to make tipoff at a youth basketball game. Kramer and Mincer's narrative of money, power and politics feels ripped from the headlines, leading readers down a twisty plot path that keeps everyone guessing until the very end.
Engaging characters and snappy dialogue make for a fun, amusing day in court.

From the Back Cover
Faxes are flying, clients are crabbing, and someone keeps smacking the bell at reception, but when former client Skippy Brockhurst is threatened by a man with designs on her young son, Lucy Bennett's divorce firm comes to a screeching halt. A catastrophe destroys the attorneys' vow to help their socialite client and her endangered family. Instead, Lucy and her matrimonial attorneys, the "Mat Ladies," wind up representing the very man targeting the little Brockhurst heir.
But this isn't the stodgy law firm of their Manhattan adversary or the slick digs of attorney Nick DeBello, the infamous publicity hound. This is the law firm of Bennett and Birnbaum--and these are the Mat Ladies.
There's a kid in a cast on the office couch, another one texting that her shoes are too tight for the school dance, and a dog slobbering all over Lucy's original set of court papers. No problem. The Mat Ladies can deal.
And deal they do, in a fierce custody battle, matching wits with their high-profile adversaries, a quirky judge, and the formidable Brockhurst matriarch, leading the combatants and the children to a fate none would have imagined.
About the Author
Lynne Adair Kramer, an AV-rated attorney, has spent thirty years negotiating and trying complex matrimonial and custody cases in the suburbs of New York City. She and her law firm of fifteen women broke ground in the field of family law. Kramer has lectured in the areas of matrimonial and family law as well as trial advocacy as a member of the faculty at Touro Law Center, Jacob D. Fuchsberg College of Law, and as a former bar association president. She continues to practice matrimonial law in New York.
New York attorney and real estate broker, Jane Dillof Mincer, met Kramer while sitting on the cold bleachers at their sons’ Little League games. Despite Kramer’s warnings to steer clear of divorce law, Mincer joined Kramer’s firm, working as one of her Mat Ladies. Mincer graduated with honors from Wellesley College and earned her juris doctorate at New York Law School.

They worked hard but the joy they experienced bringing their characters and story to life ...

An admittedly highly biased review here from Lynne Kramer's husband of more than 38 years. I had the pleasure of hearing the creative process first hand as Lynne and Jane wrote and edited together over the course of three summers in our kitchen and on calls that frequently were on speaker. They worked hard but the joy they experienced bringing their characters and story to life led to a wonderful novel about life within a 15-woman Matrimonial/Family Law Firm, a subject Lynne and Jane know well from personal experience. Everyone will love the story and the writing. The law and courtroom scenes are completely accurate, and "The Brockhurst File" should be required reading for every law student and graduate who is even thinking about undertaking a Family Law practice. More importantly, when you finish the book, you will understand why I have always told people that being married to a divorce lawyer like Lynne is so great: no matter how dumb I can be, I look wonderful by comparison to the folks Lynne met with daily for more than thirty years whose actions (or those of their spouses) led to the breakdown of their marriages. Even after reading multiple drafts, the final novel was still a joy to read. Enjoy!

Read This book
By Karen Sommers
It has been a long time since I read a book that captivated my attention so intensely. The "Brockhurst File" is a great read. The characters are so clearly developed and so human. The two woman authors, both attorneys themselves, add humor, suspense and sensitivity to a very delicate situation. I loved the way they weaved the characters together. The "Brockhurst Files becomes its' own story, not just a story about the failure of a marriage. Though the characters are often bitter and sad, their stories at times fill the reader with laugher. Lynne and Jane are great at adding comic relief when it appears there is only gloom and doom abound. The story is so well written, the characters so real, I find myself trying to cast the actors that will play them in a feature film. Congratulations to the authors who have written a most wonderful story.
