About the Author
David Riley Bertsch, a native of Pittsburgh, graduated from Penn State and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Since 2009 he has lived in Jackson, Wyoming, where he is a professional fly-fishing guide. He is the author of Death Canyon and River of No Return.

I'll go ahead and say it. I'm a Jake Trent fan now.

This is the first book I have read with this character. I'll go back and read the first book while I am waiting on the next one to come out.
There are a few interesting story lines here. At first they seem a little far fetched for this backwoods type tale but they come together so well.
All the characters are so deep that you can even smell the dog when he is being discussed.
The background of Jake is touched on a little in this one. Not having read the first book didn't hurt my reading experience and Jake seems like he needs some mystery anyway.
I like the fallibility in Jake as well. Not everything he does is perfect and precise. He makes mistakes, he's rusty and out of practice. He's also not a killing machine like so many other ex-military/now retired characters that are written about today.
Coupling the story with serene backdrops and peaceful settings brings a level of humanity to this story that helps connect the reader.

This second book by David Riley Bertsch takes the Jake Trent /Jackson experience to a whole new level! If you liked Bertsch's first book you will be over-the-top impressed by this next adventure tale! The characters-Jake in particular- are incredibly more developed and the exploits and experiences of all the characters combine to create an exciting and captivating story of international intrigue. The beautiful descriptive background of the Wyoming setting-so wonderfully captured in his first book- shines through with even more intensity. I'm anxiously awaiting the third book!!!!!

Mr. Bertsch is one author who skillfully creates another suspenseful, mysterious, dramatic, and lots of action in this wildly crazy book. He is one author who successfully strings drama and mystery like a pearl necklace. His main characters tend to stay true to their standards, even when situations seem to demand otherwise. If you’re a returning reader, have a great time because you won’t be disappointed.
While Jake is out fishing, he receives a call from a woman in his past: Divya Navasysam, in DC. She entices Jake into coming out to DC to “help” her. When he arrives at her house, a lobby party was in progress. He drinks a bit heavily, spends the night in Nivya’s arms, and wakes up to listen to his employee’s (J.P.) phone call regarding a woman (J.P.’s girlfriend, Esma) who they knew. She’d left to see her mother in Tlaxcalla, Mexico; Esma was missing phone calls and ignoring text messages. When J.P. received a message from her, he kept calling until one time someone called back. He called back and heard a male voice with other men’s voices in the background. By Chapter 18, Mr. Bertsch has involved two other countries, and at least four different subplots from diverse enemy “goals.” What until you see how it all fits together.
I loved this story from page one, not due to my earlier experiences with Jake, but due to the plots and layers of subplots which takes this novel from an OK story to a plotline level of a wonderful feast! There is a wealth of information, action, and subplots to aid in this novel. There is a wealth of information, action, and subplots to aid in this novel. River of No Return is scrumptious all the way to the end. My advice: don’t forget to stock up on this book as it will while away the hours when you can’t get outside!
