Good Suspense

I learned a lot in this complicated mystery. In fact I really liked the joggers answers about Abraham and his connection to three religions. Also learned about what people look for in diamonds. I liked the characters some more than others. Lots of drama and action happening in the book. I also liked some of the life lessons and treats Jennifer did with her grandchildren when they come to stay.(Now if I can remember by the time I have grandchildren it would be fun to do)
The plot had lots of parts coming together. Deals with terrorists who are planning attack in McLean, VA. The cell leader was smuggled in with diamonds. He sees a doll in closet and hides the diamonds in the doll. The doll is sold at a garage sale to Jennifer. The terrorists need the diamonds to buy guns and bombs for their mission. Their was so much going on it was almost too much at times. I never got lost in the story and connected with the characters fully.
It is a very fast paced book. Most of it happens in VA the Thanks Giving week. Happens in neighborhoods.
I love garage sales, thrift stores and shopping on black Friday. I am glad I never had Jennifer's luck.
I would like to read the first book in the series. Would read more books by Suzi.

This book was intense. I was riveted. It opened my eyes to possible terrorist attacks. Frightening. A great book that I would recommend to anyone.

fast-paced and fine; I'm not nearly as taken with this book ...

Amateur female sleuth -- think Nancy Drew as a grandma, or a younger Jessica Fletcher. The protagonist, Jennifer Shannon, seemingly has her finger in every major crime in McLean, Va. and has conveniently placed help (i.e. a police detective who happened to marry her daughter). There are extraneous sub-plots; the biggest in this book is the neighbor's pining for Shannon to the point of murder. Generally speaking, the book is well-written, fast-paced and fine; I'm not nearly as taken with this book (or series) as the other reviewers here, though. I could have coughed up at least another half-star if not for the author's incessant references to Shannon's grandchildren as "the Grands" -- complete with the capitol G. It's got to be a familial occurrence in her own life, but it's just incredibly annoying and distracting.
