About the Author
Alex Simmons is an award-winning freelance writer, comic book creator, playwright, teaching artist, and educational consultant. He’s written for Disney Books, Penguin Press, as well as DC and Archie Comics, to name a few. Simmons is most well known for his creator-owned series Blackjack and for books he’s written for Archie Comics. He founded the annual family event, Kids Comic Con, and three comic art exhibits. Simmons has lead creative arts workshops for students and educators in the US, West Indies, and Africa. Simmons has served on panels, and delivered lectures on children’s entertainment mediums, as well as empowering young people through the arts. He is currently writing two more Blackjack stories; scripts for an animation project, and developing a comics and creative arts program for children in the U.S., Europe, and Africa. Alex Simmons and Christopher Ryan are (individually) back at it with this seven story collection featuring Arron Day - a.k.a Blackjack - a black adventurere/soldier-of-Fortune who travels the world in the 1930's dealing (often times) death and (more often than that) violence for money, to settle vendettas or help out a friend or innocent in the cross hairs of danger.
In my opinion the stories range from great to passabale but all worth finishing and engaging in their own ways. The stories "Leap Of Faith" (featuring a series of murders in Harlem and a bevy of historical figures tied to Blackjack's past and trade in one way or another) and High Road to Terror" (where Day must save himself, someone close to him and an entire country from utter destruction) are my personal favorites. Those that find well researched adventure yarns their cup of tea are likely to find "Blackjack: Shooters" worthwhile. Likewise those that are familliar with the Blackjack character from the past.
