About the Author
Dr. Vibhakar Kotak is a research professor in neuroscience at New York University and has lived with his wife and two daughters in New Jersey for more than twenty years. He did his early schooling in East Africa and later earned his PhD in India. In addition to many scientific papers, reviews, and book chapters, he has published a set of poems: Chameleon (Outskirts Press). These poems-illustrated with his hand-drawn color cartoons of nature, animals, and musical instruments-are aimed at introspecting human energies associated with violence, pomp, success, racism, war, fear, and guilt. In this fictional Chai story, the author aims to discover how the potential and speed of human thought is heightened in parallel with life-threatening situations, which create a window of positive balance for his mind.

Great expression and needs a third dimension to perceive the ...

So much of narration and visualization packed into a compact novel, makes it a compelling read. I read it twice and in the second read, struck a discovery- that the author brought out the importance of railways in the lives of indians. The delays in running of trains , a normal and accepted phenomenon in India and a lot of creativity in imaginative persons used to be while waiting for trains. The protagonist in this novel is in same situation and his mind becomes an explorer of thoughts. Great expression and needs a third dimension to perceive the reality. I had the good fortune to read a work of poems by him "Chameleon" which is a great contrast and brings out his different approaches. A sequel can be totally different knowing his style from the two works.

The story leads you on a journey with the characters into a very explicit picture of culture and lifestyles. You become entranced with the gentleman's emotions and the end leaves you expecting a sequel. The detail is somewhat educational for those who are not familiar with the Asian culture. It is not your typical love story and leaves the reader wanting to follow the characters lives to the next adventure.

The words flow off the page in prolific visualization bordering on poetry in some places. The writing pulls you right into the sights and smells of the unique setting of this tale. It's a beautiful love story of one fated man marooned in the middle of a monsoon! The characters are strong and compelling and won't let you put the book down. I dare you to read this with a cup of chai at midnight.
