After breaking up with his girlfriend and losing his father, Salem Reid leaves college after his freshman year at Georgia Southern and joins the Army. Patrick Brown is a longtime Georgia resident. He currently lives in Northeast Atlanta with his wife and two children. Varied Traits is his first work of fiction. He is currently writing his second novel.

I am in love with this book

I am in love with this book. The style that Brown uses makes the novel very easy to read. This novel grabbed my attention from the first page. I was reluctant to ever put it down. Whenever I wasn't reading it I was thinking about what will happen next. The plot was fun and thrilling. The development of each character creates deep emotion throughout the story. Every twist and turn in the story made my blood race and pulled me in further. This book is an absolute must read that everyone and their friend needs to experience. Thank you Patrick Brown for writing Varied Traits. I can't wait for your next work.

Engaging thriller

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. An ex-army owner of a security/limousine business finds himself involved in providing justice after a friend gets robbed and a prostitute dies of an overdose, all resulting in violent retribution.
The pace is excellent and it is a real page-turner, engaging and exciting. Our hero never puts a foot wrong, unlike other detectives/heroes of mystery thrillers.
One misgiving that I have is that, if you are not totally familiar with life in the United States, many references will escape the reader – that certainly happened to me (Blue Moon etc..). This is even truer if the reader does not know the city of Atlanta: there are lengthy descriptions of routes around Atlanta, various places and restaurants, all of which is meaningless to anyone outside of Atlanta.
However a quick and entertaining read.

Enjoyable read

I really enjoyed this book. When I read a book I stop 50 pages in and ask myself, "Do I care about what happens during the rest of this story?" For Varied Traits, the answer was an emphatic Yes! Another litmus test is, do you get that sad feeling when you realize you are about to finish the book? For me, the answer was another yes.
As a resident of NE Atlanta, I enjoyed Mr. Brown's description of the area laced throughout the book. I often find that most book,TV shows and movies are fairly predictable. I was pleased that it was not the case with this book. The plot keeps you interested the whole time and the ending was not what I expected. A great read, I highly recommend it!
