About the Author
Lawrence Block has been writing award-winning mystery and suspense fiction for half a century. His most recent novels are THE BURGLAR WHO COUNTED THE SPOONS, featuring Bernie Rhodenbarr; HIT ME, featuring philatelist and assassin Keller; and A DROP OF THE HARD STUFF, featuring Matthew Scudder, brilliantly embodied by Liam Neeson in the new film, A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES. Several of his other books have also been filmed, although not terribly well. He's well known for his books for writers, including the classic TELLING LIES FOR FUN & PROFIT, and THE LIAR'S BIBLE. In addition to prose works, he has written episodic television (TILT!) and the Wong Kar-wai film, MY BLUEBERRY NIGHTS. He is a modest and humble fellow, although you would never guess as much from this biographical note.

Ehrengraf For The Defense

Martin H. Ehrengraf never defends a guilty client. The dapperly dressed little kawyer is always positive of their innocence even if they recall committing the murder. And somehow things always work out in their favor.
Ehrengraf works hard behind the scenes to make it so.
These dark little tales, a dozen to date, finds a lawyer that makes his clients innocent by whatever means necessary. He doesn't like courtrooms and leaving the decision to twelve people. As a result, he rarely appears in court, commanding large fees payable only if his client is absolved of all guilt. One fee, no billable expenses or charges for anything else.
And don't even think of deciding not to pay when it's over. Ehrengraf makes it clear from the beginning he gets paid whether he seems to have done anything or not. He doesn't like client who pull that one.
One new tale in this collection, eleven previously published stories.

THE FINEST FUNNIEST SATIRE

Martin Ehrengraf is the greatest criminal lawyer of our time. He is well-spoken, dapper and only gets paid when he proves his client's innocence. To round out the picture of the perfect lawyer, Martin Ehrengraf has no conscience. This tongue in cheek satire of the legal system is thoroughly enjoyable. As soon as I finish laughing, I'm writing a letter to the Pope and submitting Martin Ehrengraf's name for sainthood. He could become the patron saint of all lawyers.

Great read!

Great read!!. I love this Martin Ehrengraf. A dapper lawyer, who only charges "innocent" clients if he gets them off without being charged. And, his clients are innocent. Otherwise, he forfeits his fee. And his clients always get off (or away with it). His methods are quite interesting, perhaps even unusual for a lawyer. If you like a good laugh and a clever, creative protagonist then this is for you. I had a great time with him.
