A Rollicking, Ribald, Revealatory Read!
By Pony Storm
Pete Liebengood's second novel "Accidental Droning" is just plain FUN. And much more: The story line moves along leaving the reader no time to catch his/her breath. California politics...corrupt politics!...and the pettiness of, and subterfuge within, the media. Liebengood's background as a TV journalist/sportscaster imbues "Accidental Droning" considerable credibility. There is even hilarious over-the-top sex and marital infidelity. (I don't know about the author's experience in this area.) If only "Fifty Shades of Grey" were so entertaining!
And, of course, the Drone of the title gives Liebengood's presentation a currency that makes it an immediate MUST for the recreational reader. The "critical" reader wouldn't be interested in "The Great Gatsby" or "Gone With The Wind" anyway.
Your obvious long hours at the keyboard will be reaping rewards, Pete!

Accidental droning
By Clare O'Beara
I am not entirely happy with the style, but the essence of the story is worth a read. We spend too long getting backstory of everyone in the cast told to us, when this should be supplied some other way, in conversation or as a news item perhaps.
The first character we meet is a not-so-bright drug user in a beach bar; he bolts from a pusher's demand for money and is chased in his car by an aerial unit we now call a drone. These have got smaller since the book was written but the main function - to film - is in place.
Next we meet a guy called Bo who works in a California country club but gets fired; he turns to drone flying as a hobby. His wife is more concerned with her political aspirations than her marriage and tells him drones are a big privacy issue. Bo still talks golf at every opportunity but then he and his pal film a woman being dumped into a mansion's swimming pool, tied up; most persons of normal conscience would bring this film to the police, but Bo's wife Lena forbids it as she's now a candidate. Strange woman. I think I'd be divorcing her.
The husband of the woman who is reported missing, is an older man and not the one filmed. Someone else knows a drone was near and figures out the radius it can cover - two miles - and battery life - less than half an hour - so he starts hunting for the enthusiast who may have seen the killing. A female journalist called Mia is sent to ask around. Methinks Bo's problems could be solved by releasing the film footage on the net and telling the cops where to look. Provided he doesn't mind divorcing.
There are some unpleasant and disrespectful scenes of handling a dead body. Most pages, though not all, have strong language and references to adult behaviour. Although I do like the scene where a man stopped on suspicion of drink driving explains that he's delivering a dead body to the coroner in his van, officer. The drone doesn't play any more part so if you're a drone enthusiast the first few chapters will do for you. This quite masculine book will suit those who like this kind of crime story and will interest others in parts. In particular this could be taken as a satire on political candidates and the corruption of a woman by the chance of gaining status.

A wild ride indeed!
By C M Anderson
Bo Granger just lost his job at the golf course. It doesn't hold well with his near estranged wife, who is running for the Democratic nominee for Governor of California. His new hobby, which goes against her "privacy" platform, shoves their marriage over the cliff. To seal it tight, her campaign manager does the despicable. A series of events has Bo and his friends scrambling to set things right. It is one thrill ride after another to the very end.
I love this balls-to-the-wall, more mature action adventure that really screams "CHARGE!" after his drone captures the unthinkable on camera. Once that event is set in motion, it is one wild ride that has you in its grip to the very end. I thought the wife's legs open 24/7 was going to be a turn off for me in the beginning. However, it advances the storyline in a very clever way. This is a great show of who your true friends are, also. It is fully rounded, very entertaining, shocking in parts, and unbelievable in most. It is so unlike any other book I have ever read. Am I glad I did. It is incredible!
Thank you Mr. Liebengood, Xlibris and NetGalley for giving me a free copy of this book to read and give my honest review.
