About the Author
Charles Farley lives with his wife, three teenagers, four cats, and one dog a few blocks from the site of the Hotel Monte Sano in Huntsville, Alabama. His first book, Soul of the Man, is the heralded biography of blues great Bobby “Blue” Bland. He also wrote the popular Florida Mystery Trilogy—Secrets of San Blas, Secrets of St. Vincent, and Secrets of St. Joe— that takes place in and around Port St. Joe, Florida, in 1938—1939. His most recent book is entitled The Hotel Monte Sano, a love story mystery set at the exclusive resort in 1892.

I didn't want this book to end. It's full of adventure with a little romance in front of a historical backdrop in the late 1800s. This part of the state of Alabama is a fascinating area of the state that unfortunately gets very little attention. The old photographs featured in the book help the reader go back in time. Wouldn't it be great to be able to spend a summer in a place like the Hotel Monte Sano?

This book is written more for young readers or the teenage crowd, but as a frequent hiker on Monte Sano, I enjoyed reading this book based around local landmarks in Monte Sano Park. Every time I hike to the Natural Well, I think about this book and mention it to hiking partners. I read the book on Kindle and the photos were very small. I would like to see larger version of the photos and I would like to know more about the history of the mountain.
