Awesome start to a cozy series

This was my first book of Spitzer’s, but it won’t be my last. She is a talented storyteller and this book checks off all the necessary points for a good cozy. You have your small town, your main female character and her best friend, along with a mystery—of course.
I love that her main character, Annie Ryan, is down-to-earth and not a girlie girl obsessed with fashion, makeup, and men. She’s someone that I can relate to.
Spitzer also throws in a romantic element, but you’ll have to read the book to see if it works out.
My conclusion? It was a very enjoyable read that will appeal to the cozy mystery lover, and I look forward to the next in the series.

This book was a very good mystery. It was different from her other books but just as good. I'm really looking forward to the next one in this series. I love a book that makes me feel like I'm a part of it and all of her books do this. So if you like mysteries read her books I don't think you'll be disappointed.

"A Captivating Mystery, Fun To Read"

Annie Ryan owns the Heavenly Book Shoppe in Heavenly Corners, Wisconsin. Her parents retired to Arizona leaving her the shop, her daughter Lacy is in college away from home, and her husband Steve had been killed 10 years earlier in an auto accident. Now it's April and still chilly in this small town where people like to sit and gossip in places like the Heavenly Grill, the Heavenly Diner, and Lacy's bookstore where she offers a couch and chairs for prospective customers. Georgie is her best friend from high school days. She and her husband Paul own the Heavenly Grill. Lacy likes to stay current as to what the city managers have in the works so she always attends council meetings. Inga Kelleher who owns a large home called Heavenly Mansion near the lake; she also owns nearly all the surrounding property around the lake and the lake rights. She's a strong willed lady and usually gets her way. At this council meeting she drops over onto the floor dead. She was 91. Annie also lives on the opposite side of the lake from the Mansion, in a nice home, and her Aunt Irene lives in the small cabin next door. Douglas Kelleher is Inga's nephew and delivers Inga's Yorkshire Terrier, "Yummy," to Lacy. Inga and Lacy had a very close bond sharing the same values thus she willed Yummy to Lacy. Soon Inga's attorney brings Lacy a $10,000 check for Yummy's care. Douglas also went to the police station and demanded the autopsy be cancelled, saying, "Let Inga rest in peace." Did she fall over from heart failure? Or was she murdered for her wealth? Something is terribly suspicious here in Heavenly Corners and Lacy's curiosity will put her in harm's way, but there is one man who has returned to his hometown who takes a special interest in her and the investigation. This is a great entertaining read full of suspense and twists. Oh, also there's the promise of maybe a little romance? You'll love this quick reading story, it really captivated me!
