Bay Winchester is having a tough week.
As the local editor of Hemlock Cove's only newspaper, she just happens to be present when a body is found in an area corn maze. To make matters worse, the police believe the murder may have something to do with the occult.
This wouldn't be a problem for a normal reporter, but since Bay is descended from a well-known line of actual witches, the town is understandably on edge.
Between the suspicious townspeople, the befuddled police presence and that random hot biker guy that may or may not have something to do with the murder -- Bay has her hands full.
When you add the typical family problems, multiplying ghosts -- and one monster of a zit that she's sure came from her aunt's curse -- Bay is just struggling to make it through the week.
Of course, when the killer sets his sights on Bay, things could get a whole lot worse.
Note: These books are full of sarcasm and are a little bit snarky -- so read only if you like to laugh and you aren't easily offended. This is the first book in the Wicked Witches of the Midwest mystery series.

Fun to read but....

There were many grammar mistakes. I find that annoying. Also she referred to their home as being a Victorian from the 1600s. Victorian homes in the US date from about 1840 to 1900. With these exceptions, I liked the story.

Lee is a good writer with one VERY big exception

Well..... Ms. Lee is a good writer with one VERY big exception.
None of the historical references or dates were checked before completion, or things were missed.
Many things.
I always edit as I go along.
Towards the beginning of the book, Bay goes to the corn maze and grabs a cider from the concession stand. Not too much later, she's makes a statement saying she doesn't like the stuff. In other words, details contradicting themselves. A friend of mine who started the second book says Aunt Tillie is only 80 years old when in this book, she's 85. Contradictions. Readers notice this stuff & it isn't good. Sloppy.
There were so so many typos along with sentences that did not make sense because of missing words or the writer backspaced to re-write and didn't erase them all like she thought. Happens a lot and could be one explanation. There were many grammar errors as well. It was very distracting and harmed the overall enjoyment of reading the story.
I liked this book a lot, but will not rate it higher like I wanted to because of the dozens of problems it had.
I rarely say this.....
Amanda, you are good at writing cute stories. In fact, you're too good to ignore your work and not edit it professionally.
Sorry. Friends and family don't count.
You write in a way that makes readers giggle and you have a great sense of humor.
Clean your books up. It's really worth it. I wanted to give you 4 stars.

Bewitching and Funny as Hell

I love Lee's latest series: Here, a trio of cousins, who happen to be witches, live in the magical(ly marketed) town of Hemlock Cove. Bay works for the local paper, and what was to be the top story for the week -- the new corn maze (yup, it's that small of a town) -- is trumped by a gruesome murder. It's up to Bay and her cousins (with the help of her very eccentric and super hilarious aunts -- you seriously have to meet Aunt Tillie) to solve the mystery.
