I am a big Larson fan so this review is slightly biased. Nothing makes me happier then when I see a new book on his website. I thought the latest book was good.... but not quite the same as the SWARM series. I don't know if it is the new author helping or what... but this book seemed a little off. I found myself skipping over some pages for the first time.
However overall I am still excited for the series. This book has really set up some interesting set pieces for the future. I always enjoy getting to meet new races and planets. The next book should be great with all the new races coming into play.

Losing Steam
By Some Average Guy
So we're now on our second story with Cody Riggs (Kyle's son). The plethora of aliens continues to expand, a big plus, but the story isn't as exciting as it was in the first 10 books under Kyle.
When just B. V. Larson wrote and Mark Boyett narrated the earlier stories, it was a consistent action-packed roller coaster with a clear struggle/goal they strove for in each book. I wonder if the slump this time is because another author is a major contributor in this book as Larson is still writing consistently excellent stuff in his other series.
By the points:
-They are trapped/cut off from earth, but that struggle of getting home is background noise at best and I felt it should be more of the focus
-Sokolov and his temptress sidekick were a waste of pages that really just enabled better intro of "the new blues" / big bad guys
-I like what was done with the raptors
-The new communicator was interesting
-Cody character is a mere shadow of Kyle Riggs, and his girlfriend is 2D window dressing
-This was a big chance for Marvin to shine, I don't feel that he did (I'm a Marvin fan)
-The end was a good tease
-I like the hints at connection to past & future story arcs (e.g. Cody's first girl getting killed)
-Macro cameos kind of left me feeling burned out, they're just not exciting anymore
-Machismo couple interactions / love scenes were even more awful than usual. Take them out or have them add to the story. Build a real relationship/bond that's tested, make them erotic, anything, just give them a purpose and some semblance of reality.
I'll read the next one in the series and give time for the authors to develop Cody and give readers greater investment, but only because this is part of a great series and Larson is a consistently good author. If this had been book one of a series by a new author I would probably have tossed it and put that author's name on my do-not-read-anymore list. It wasn't bad per se, it just wasn't that good. I wasn't compelled to turn the next page and stay up till 2AM reading it. Only the teases and hints that were leveraged from the series kept me going until the end.

Good start to the second part of the Star Force Series!
By Kiki's Indie Reviews and Rants
Okay the first 9 got four stars from me. This one was a little like revisiting the father. The son picks the same kind of women, same boozer tendencies (LOL). I do love this series but the last two was almost like a rehash. But that is okay. I will def. be reading the 12th I can't wait. PLEASE mix it up a bit. Make the women not so neurotic. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I promise most of us are "normal" :). Okay support indie artists.
