Full Name: Roy Howard Carter Hometown: Magnetic Island, Queensland, Australia Born in the UK, R. H. Carter spent a few years with the R.A.F. before being medically discharged with a back injury. In that realm he is a successful coach, mentor and international public speaker and is the author of a number of non-fiction books such as, 'Can A Beer Mat Change Your Life?', which is a compilation of his popular monthly newsletter 'Letters From A Small Island'. Hankering after the Mediterranean lifestyle, he moved to Cyprus and spent ten happy years there with his wife Lyn, before moving to another (much smaller) island, this time in the Coral Sea, in Queensland, Australia. 'Maggie', as Magnetic Island is affectionately known, is the place he and Lyn now call home and it is here that Roy has settled down to enjoy writing fiction. Book 2 is excellent. Fast paced and very well written with a terrific storyline. Looking forward to more books in this series.

Predictable sequel disappoints, yet has potential

This book was simply published too soon and without sufficient input from capable proofreaders and an experienced publisher.

Still, I enjoyed the story and urge the author to broaden his sources of input and feedback, even redoing books one and two to fix errors -- including glaring ones in book 2. (Hints: Number of paintings consistent through all references and name of Peyton's wife accurate upon entrance to the classroom.)

I'm pleased to see a female given more to do, but would like to see women in positions of authority and even being heroic from time to time.

If I didn't see potential in this author, I wouldn't finish the book or leave remarks. He has good ideas, and just needs more input and refinement of his books prior to publishing.

What some charactors! Love the different viewpoints of the two brothers & the nephew--well done. This is a fairly serious subject; so the story was very craftily balanced. Grabbing the second one--now!

About the Author
Richard Bard draws on his own experiences as a former USAF pilot and cancer survivor to craft compelling characters who risk it all for love and loyalty. Born in Munich, Germany, to American parents, he joined the United States Air Force like his father. But he left the service when he was diagnosed with cancer and learned he had only months to live. He earned a management degree from the University of Notre Dame and ran three successful companies involving advanced security products used by US embassies and governments worldwide. Now a full-time writer, he lives in Redondo Beach, California, with his wife and remains in excellent health.

I could hardly wait to get Book 2--and I was not disappointed. This book kept you on the edge of ...

I have read everyone of the Brainrush series--devouring one right after another. When Everlast came out I immediately bought and downloaded it. At the end of Everlast you had the option to pre-ordering Ephemeral-Book 2 which I did not hesitate to do. I could hardly wait to get Book 2--and I was not disappointed. This book kept you on the edge of your seat and looking forward to see what happens next--a real page turner. Even though I wanted to keep reading it because I love this series so much that I only read this book over a 3 day period because I wanted to savor the story and make it last--I hated to see it end. Normally I read a book a day! For some reason I had the impression that there was only going to be 2 books for this series but I was wrong because of the way Ephemeral ended I knew that another book had to be in the works. Now I am impatient for the next one to come out!

I hope Mr. Bard won't go by the way of other famous authors and start to charge very expensive prices for his eBooks because that would be the only reason I would have to stop reading his books. People with limited incomes can't afford to put a lot of money into books so it is very hard for us to find good books and ones that we can afford. Thank you Mr. Bard for making these books affordable for people like me because it enables me to keep reading your books!

It keeps on getting better ....

Yet another sizzler from Richard Bard. This one starts at Mach-6, and accelerates from there. The action is tangible, the characters brilliantly constructed, and the plot/scenarios carefully woven in to give the reader an experience that is lacking in nothing. I have read all Richard's books, in order, starting with "Brainrush". Especially interesting and enjoyable, is the way the characters develop and grow throughout both series, giving them real credibility. Fascinating!!

Both this one, and it's predecessor "Everlast" are a little shorter than the average novel, but I strongly recommend you buy both, and launch straight into "Ephemeral" as soon as you finish "Everlast". This will satisfy those readers who prefer a longer book.

Once again, first-class work from a man with astounding imagination and talent.

Sizzling thriller

Ephemeral is the second novel in Richard Bard's Everlast Duology Series and we once again join forces with Jake Bronson and friends Lacey, Pete and Skylar as they arrive in Hong Kong searching for Jake's family and best friend Marshall.

So, Game on. Back on that roller coaster of thrills and spills, chock-a-block with action, suspense, danger, cutting edge technology, superb characterization and multiple strands in the plot line that all weave together to produce one fabulously exciting, fast paced and sizzling thriller.

Richard Bard you are indeed a master wordsmith- you NEVER disappoint. I was completely and utterly "in" the moment as I cheered them on, yelled at the baddies , laughed at some of their antics and shed a tear .

A Brilliant novel that comes highly recommended. I for one can't wait for the next.

Another great read! Tyler Mackenzie is one of my favorite characters. At times I don't want to like him, but still do! This is another great story by Marilinne Cooper. Love this series.

Wicked Fun

Slow Down is wickedly good fun. Goldberg skillfully weaves together elements of mystery, social satire and futurism into a wholly original thriller that contradicts its title by racing forward into new territory while remaining thoroughly entertaining with every escalating twist.

Goldberg paints unsparing portraits of his superficially-glamorous anti-heroes, and convincingly constructs the book's universe with detailed descriptions of the peculiar idiosyncrasies of its exclusive milieu.

These privileged, neurotic, maniacally-driven Manhattanites are difficult to love, but that's fine because they do not love themselves, either. Goldberg is craftily criticising rather than glorifying these despicable people. Barreling through their cutthroat, FOMO, keeping-up-with-the-Joneses lives with them is a guilty pleasure. I especially enjoyed the little sister character, Cassie. Her behaviour is vile, yet she provides a window into the genuine, uncorrupted sliver that remains in narrator Noah's heart of hearts.

Dominick the domineering filmmaker seems especially realistic--- a difficult task for an author to pull off when the character indulges in such outlandish exploits. Goldberg really captures the tightrope essence of the dynamic between well-funded self-proclaimed geniuses of the arts and their beleaguered calculating underlings.

The futuristic elements are refreshingly original, oddly plausible, and remind me of a snappy homage to William T. Vollmann. I'm definitely tempted to walk into a bar and order a Pennytini with an infused coin.

This novel is highly cinematic. I can imagine it adapted into a very stylish dark film that would also be both subversive and amusing.

The theme of unchecked, relentless, self-destructive ambition is very timely. Slow Down explores this in a vivid, escalating, entertaining roller-coaster-ride of a book.

No Reason To Slow Down When Reading This Book!

There is something special about Slow Down by Lee Matthew Goldberg that I just can’t seem to put my finger on. Sure the plot is quick moving and focuses on some of my favorite noir material, sure the dialogue is witty at places and insightful in others, and sure the characters seem to come to life as you read it…but the sum seems to be even bigger than all those respective parts would indicate it would be. This was a dynamite read from beginning to end and I dare say there are elements within the book that seem to indicate Goldberg is going be putting out even better novels in the future.

This firecracker of a book centers on Noah Spaeth, a trust fund type of guy who wants for nothing; except to be a big time writer. Things begin to look up when he strikes up a friendship with Dominick Bamback, the new “it” director of Hollywood. The two men bond; yet remain like water and oil.

…then us two men, differing a little in age, laughed obnoxiously: at our new friendship based on who could be the bigger a##hole. At the time, neither of us realized what the other one had planned, both thinking we had the upper hand, while in reality a war was about to begin. ..

The friendship between a somewhat snobby Noah and the world-at-his-fingertips Dominick is one based on getting the upper hand and being willing to go to all lengths to do just that. When you mix in Dominick’s wife and Noah’s desire to possess her, the sparks begin to fly for the reader.

This book does everything right. It contains everything you could want in a tightly written piece of literature. Goldberg penned the type of book that makes you want to shake people who aren’t aware that there are authors that exist outside the aisles of Barnes & Noble and their local Costco. This is a perfect example of why people need to look at the smaller presses to find the best books being published.

New Pulp Press has put out yet another winner. The emergence of the E-Reader has allowed noir lovers to be drenched with novels, novellas, and short stories that are published by publishers that seem to be run by noir readers and noir lovers. These books are cheap to access and there is no reason for you not to drop a few dollars on this book. Great read!

a new member of top tier mystery writers club

At times a page turner akin to Robert Crais, Leonard Elmore,, and Lee Childs, the central character narrates a fantastic noir tale of alcohol, drugs, and sex among the mostly young and mostly idle rich and preppy world of New York. Unlike Joe and Elvis and even Jack Reacher, Noah is clearly and decidedly no hero. Of the dozen or so characters in the book only one, a Mexican housekeeper deserves empathy. While not more than one or two will earn your sympathy. Still this tale will hold your interest throughout its plot twists and activities. Read it and decide for yourself whether Noah has earned redemption and your sympathy. It was for me, the central question that hangs over the novel.

Devil in the Deadline

This is Lyndee's 4th book in the Headlines in High Heels series. I have read each book in this series and found them all to be a fun, easy read.
Nichelle Clark always seems to be running head first into whatever may be in her way. Even if it happens to be a murder. She doesn't hesitate to jump right in, be it a friend or a stranger that was murdered. Following clues that might be deadly are of not much concern to her.
In her social life, is amazes me that she is able to juggle 2 hunkie men. One is with the ATF, the other? Oh no big deal that he is with the Mafia. Talk about protection! What more could a girl ask for?
Pick up any of Lyndee's books, and I don't think you will regret it.

Fantastic!

A gruesome murder kicks off this action-packed adventure, and Nichelle, who can go where the Richmond police can't, is up against a tidal wave of pressure. There's Charlie (I wish she'd leave Nichelle alone), a rouge blogger, but the worst is when she gets on the wrong side of a preacher. Nichelle makes progress in the Joey v Kyle department. I won't say who. A great read.

Nichelle Clarke is a crime reporter with excellent taste in fine footwear and she doesn’t let those high heels hold her back when she needs to climb to the latest crime scene. The scene she finds is just ghastly and almost beyond words. But her new competition, a blogger, has no problem putting all the gruesome details out there. The big question is where is she getting her information. Nichelle is supposed to have an exclusive agreement with the cops! for her help in the investigation. That investigation puts Nichelle’s life in danger but she will do anything to get the story and catch a killer. It doesn’t hurt that she has her old high school boyfriend, now ATF Agent Kyle and a hunk like Joey with his questionable underworld ties watching her back, but can they keep her safe this time?

This entire series is absolutely awesome. Each story is just full of action, thrills, romance and humor too! LynDee Walker just keeps topping herself!

I love the characters! Nicey is such a strong woman and she is always on a deadline. This time she receives help from a very unlikely person. She also never knows when bad-boy Joey (no last name) will appear but his kisses never fail to curl her toes. Kyle is still interested in rekindling their romance and while she knows his last name and he would offer her a more stable life there is just no toe curling. But he isn’t giving up. I also like her editor at the paper. He seems like a man with common sense in an industry that is changing on a daily basis. He fights hard for his job and for Nichelle and makes an excellent sounding board for her.

The plot is fantastic. The crime seems to be pure evil and the twists really add to the suspense. We also learn more about Nichelle and the story ends with quite a cliffhanger. LynDee Walker’s journalist’s skills shine and have made her an excellent mystery writer.

In The Replacement we follow homicide detectives Patrick Sullivan and his partner Jonathan Hawkins, on a hunt for a sadistic serial killer, who we will come to know as "The Surgeon."

This was a very suspenseful and intriguing ride to say the least. There were quite a few emotional scenes. Some happy...others that will make you cringe. Many ghosts from the past to be dealt with and many new ones to be had by the time you're done.

This is not one for all. There are very graphic, gory scenes and is intended for adults only. Don't want to give away to much, so no more spoilers from me.

All in all, this was very detailed and well written. Great characters and amazing story line.

A Fast Paced Thriller

Patrick Sullivan is a newly hired homicide detective. His first case involves the murder of an elderly couple. This is a vicious and brutal attack that leaves even the most seasoned veterans stunned. As the investigation begins, we are left to wonder who would murder an elderly couple with no known enemies? Is this an isolated incident or the beginning of something more sinister?
The Replacement was quite a roller coaster ride. The characters were richly drawn and the dialogue was realistic. This was a book that made me want to keep reading. No, this was a book that forced me to keep reading. If you are looking for a fast paced thriller, The Replacement won’t disappoint.

You don't want a referral to this surgeon...

First off, let me start by saying this one is good, really good. What a great debut novel. The MC was very human and believable, with all the flaws that go along with being human. He was also a little nuts,as shown by how he's haunted by the ghosts of his past, but I digress. The supporting characters were great as well. The murders were gruesome. It was just a really good crime drama. One thing of note, the author used a bit of foreshadowing that reminded me of Stephen King, which is a big plus.

I do think it was a bit lengthy. I think it could be edited down and made even better, but some people love hyper-detailed writing, so that's just my opinion. I also have to admit I saw the big revelation coming, although the novel isn't what I'd call predictable. I also thought the ending was a bit dismaying, but understandable and sadly realistic.

Overall, I would recommend this to anyone who likes crime dramas or suspense novels. Fans of Thomas Harris and the Hannibal novels would probably especially enjoy this one. Even though it was a bit lengthy, it reads pretty quickly, so it doesn't drag much. I'm interested to see what Jason Pellegrini writes next!

About the Author
Neal Goldstein was born and raised in Philadelphia. He lives with his wife in Haverford, Pennsylvania. A graduate of Central High School, Temple University, and Temple University School of Law, he currently practices law in Philadelphia representing Labor Unions and employee benefit plans. Fish town is the sequel to Murder and Mayhem in Manayunk, the third book in the series, Northern Liberties, is scheduled for publication in 2016. He is also the author of The Pa-La-ti-'Shan.

Neal Goldstein's Fishtown: A Jack Regan/Izzy Ichowitz Novel

This is the second book in the Jack Regan/Izzy Ichowitz series.
It can be read as a stand alone. I did not read the first book and
had no trouble following the storyline. The author creates a
effortless flow between the past and present easy for the reader
to follow.
This is a creative murder mystery with many twists and turns.
So grab a cold one and sit back in your comfortable chair
then…Hang on tight! This book gets off to a fast start.
The tension was thick and well-sustained and had this reader
tuned in from page one.
The book moves fast containing a lot of harsh reality. The book
covers deceit, betrayal, viciousness, greed, hatred, kidnapping,
murder yet it is also filled with faith, friendship, trust,
forgiveness and love.
The characters are vivid having great dimension and are very
well developed. The setting is Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The
author was able to mix Philadelphia history into the story. Plus
his knowledge of the various procedures in law enforcement
adds to the story’s plot.
So if you want a fast paced drama, suspense and romance, make
sure you give this book a read.

so this was a nice change! I didn’t read the other book in ...

I so excited to find this book on NetGalley since I live in the Philadelphia suburbs and have friends and family who live in Fishtown!
I’ve always read mysteries but for the last few months I’ve been completely obsessed with dark psychological thrillers – most set in London, main character unlikeable etc, so this was a nice change!
I didn’t read the other book in this series “Murder and Mayhem in Manayunk” but I was able to completely follow the plot throughout the book. It is definitely ok as a stand-alone read. There was plenty of mystery, action and intrigue to make up for the lack of a “gone Girl” plot.
I did read this in two days but I wouldn’t say that it is short boo, I just got so caught up in it that I read early in the morning before work & then after dinner until the wee hours.
“Fishtown” is a good read for both men and woman. It’s pretty intense so I probably wouldn’t recommend it for a beach read (I read in June).
I won’t say more about the plot for fear of spoiling the surprises throughout the book, but if you enjoy action, crime and plot twists you will enjoy this book!

Jack and Izzy Return

First, let me say that you do not have to read Murder and Mayhem in Manyunk to understand the who and what of Fishtown, but it wouldn't hurt and it was a fun read. This picks up following the conclusion of the previous novel, but adds an assortment of new characters as well as a new plot line. Jack and Izzy are teamed again to tie up some loose end from Murder, but also are on the trail of new evidence in a case that goes back decades. The author keeps the tale moving as the investigation opens new clues and characters to the storyline. The book has it all... murders, CIA, FBI, Mossad, Phila.
Police, Polish mafia, and as always in Goldstein's books an insiders view of Philadelphia buildings, neighborhood and the unique mix of people the city offers. A very enjoyable read. Try it... You'll like it!

About the Author
The identity of the author is as much a mystery as the plots of the novels. Two dozen novels were published from 1924 to 1944 as by Archibald Fielding, A. E. Fielding, or Archibald E. Fielding, yet the only clue as to the real author is a comment by the American publishers, H.C. Kinsey Co. that A. E. Fielding was in reality a “middle-aged English woman by the name of Dorothy Feilding whose peacetime address is Sheffield Terrace, Kensington, London, and who enjoys gardening.” Research on the part of John Herrington has uncovered a person by that name living at 2 Sheffield Terrace from 1932-1936. She appears to have moved to Islington in 1937 after which she disappears. To complicate things, some have attributed the authorship to Lady Dorothy Mary Evelyn Moore nee Feilding (1889-1935), however, a grandson of Lady Dorothy denied any family knowledge of such authorship. The archivist at Collins, the British publisher, reports that any records of A. Fielding were presumably lost during WWII. Birthdates have been given variously as 1884, 1889, and 1900. Unless new information comes to light, it would appear that the real authorship must remain a mystery.

Horrid Editing by Publisher

This review is for the paperback reprint of "The Westwood Mystery" (author A.E. Fielding) by "Resurrected Press". This is my fourth review of reprints by Resurrected Press of the A.E. Fielding books. The mystery is another good A. E. Fielding mystery, with Chief Inspector Pointer as an excellent character, BUT the editing of this edition is appallingly horrid. Again, it appears that the original hardbound book was scanned, but the publisher's OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software is not of high quality AND there has been no assurance via editing to assure that the book is the same as the original work. There are extra words, incorrect words (major problems with prepositions), missing words, wrong words (rest assured becomes re-assured), misspelled words, sentences ending in the middle, extra periods, missing periods, and even the butler, Mr. Tukes, becomes Mr. "Pukes". If you can get through the horrid editing, the mystery is a good mystery with a very novel ending.
After reading one original hardbound mystery (old hardbound book) by A. E. Fielding, and finding the mystery to be an excellent mystery and excellently written, I bought 11 of these reprints from Amazon because I could not find the originals. This is the fourth of the 11 which I have read and I will continue to review the remaining reprints when I have finished reading them. It is truly a bad reflection on the publishing industry when a publisher does not care about correct scanning of the old classical books. I, personally, will never buy another book that has been published by this publisher. It's hard to believe that others actually read these reprints and provide good reviews without mentioning the multitude of errors.

Too many clues! A most challenging mystery.

Actually, 3 1/2 stars. It was slow to start with two different plots going and then the KC (I believe it stands for Kings Counsel?) is murdered. There are way too many clues that don't make any sense at first. Then a third plot appears - the French connection! And finally the first plot and the murder plot start to come together. It's a bit rambling, I think, but our intrepid detective finds his way and -Saves the day! And brings the murderer, if not to justice then at least to light. If you have time, the clues are all there...except that one...

SUCH GOOD MYSTERIES

I really enjoy these mysteries. And they're truly indicative of the word, mystery There are very few authors I have read who can style one of these without throwing in so much unnecessary "action." These are true mysteries in which one must THINK about who was murdered and then why it happened. Fascinating writing. Horrible editing on these books, however. Typos are in extreme abundance, which is often quite annoying.

Historical aspects and great characters (plus ancient alien DNA) make for a great sci-fi

An alien species found its way to Earth. Before the aliens departed the blue planet, they left behind a legacy in the DNA of some lifeforms on Earth. Then in the 18th century, much later in the evolutionary history, Captain Jack Finnegan is introduced to two members of a secret society, one Select and the other a priest. The captain, his crew, and the two strangers embark on a quest for a relic of the gods. The quest will require all of Jack’s wit and skill to survive. Three hundred years later, a famous archaeologist seeks adventure, and he certainly cannot pass up the opportunity to locate a relic. The only problem is that he’s stuck between the U.S. government, a crime lord, and his long-forgotten past.

I enjoyed Ryan Attard’s The Pandora Chronicles: Book 1. I liked the incorporation of ancient aliens. Humans were not created by godlike aliens, in this novel. Rather, they were allowed to evolve and form into something akin to the aliens’ image. The novel is separated, excluding the prologue and epilogue, into two parts. Part One is Captain Jack’s story. Part Two is Nick’s story. This allowed me to better enjoy and understand the characters and plots without having to wonder which time period that chapter is on.

The characters developed well. It was somewhat difficult at first to get used to the style of writing when it came to Captain Finnegan’s perspective. It was pretty quick to get through, but the flow of Finnegan’s thoughts made the time feel slower. It added to his time period being three hundred years ago, but for a man who sails the high seas and fought others, I expected his thoughts to run a little faster. The duchess wasn’t as well developed. I would have liked to learn more about her. Nick seemed a little superficial in that his personality seemed to make up his being. More depth could have been added with some thoughts or an anecdote — something beyond his use of his Select genetics to hyper-think. Some people may be put off by some of his lewd comments, but I didn’t find them horrible and was often surprised at how often Maddie remarked about them. However, Nick’s observations of those around him were funny.

A different way of including foreign languages into the novel was how they were translated. I’m used to seeing the translation outside of the quotes, sometimes italicized. Attard provided the translation in parentheses, in the quotation marks.

Besides the theme of greed in people and government entities, one theme is the result of opening Pandora’s box, hence the name of the series. When people get too curious, they could unleash untold evil — at least frightening things — on the world. As cliche as it the phrase goes, “curiosity killed the cat.” The majority of the characters in this novel have no idea the power they are seeking and what it may mean for humankind.

This exciting, new adventure is a great addition to the science fiction genre. I recommend The Pandora Chronicles: Book 1 to sci-fi fans. The novel may also be of interest to action and adventure readers.

Ryan Attard has done it again

Very interesting, following generations of "Select". Superior humans with alien DNA.. Well
written and holds ones attention making putting the book down difficult. I would definitely
recommend this book and all of the other books by Mr. Attard. You will not be disappointed
if you purchase. his books.

I was actually contacted by the author’s personal assistant to read and review this book and I couldn’t be more awed and thrilled to have the opportunity to do so. It’s not a book I probably would have found or read on my own, but having read the book I am looking forward to the next book in the series and am planning on going to bn.com and purchasing a few of his other books for my nook. I really love the multiple points of view of the story, though I was sad to see Captain Jack Finnegan’s end (he reminds a little bit of Hook from Once Upon a Time). The rest of the book picks up with Nick Solomon generations later. Nick is a brilliant smart ass and I enjoyed his plot line. In the epilogue we get a new character who picks up generations after Nick so I am thinking the next book will pick up with him. I’m hoping in book 2 we still get Nick and maybe ever a few flashbacks of Captain Jack.
