About the Author
Andrea Frazer is married with four grown-up children, and lives in the Dordogne with her husband Tony and their six cats. She has wanted to write since she first began to read at the age of five, but has previously been busy raising a family and working as a lecturer in Greek (she has a Fellowship Diploma in Greek) and teaching music. Apart from writing, Andrea continues to teach music, and now also teaches French to expatriates. Her interests include playing several instruments, reading, and choral singing with two choirs.

English Village Cozy

Whenever someone asks me what a `cozy' mystery is, I tend to say it's a mystery with an amateur sleuth. Turns out that's an over-simplification. Oh, all right - it's not true. Sure, a lot of cozies have amateur sleuths, but not all. So what makes a mystery `cozy'? I'm still working on that. What they're NOT, as a rule, is `gritty'. Or `noir'. Or hyper-violent. There's a focus on people and the relationships between them. There is often humor.
A good example of a mystery with professional sleuths that I would classify as a `cozy' is this one - Death of an Old Git. It's set in an English village, a good hint that it's going to be cozy. The sleuthing pair is humorously mismatched, and the large suspect pool of village characters keeps you intrigued.
The titular `Old Git' is Reg Morley, the most irritating man in Castle Farthing. Morley is a petty thief, a peeping tom, and a quarrelsome troublemaker whose hobby is making life miserable for as many people as possible. So when he turns up drugged and strangled, the problem for the authorities is - too many suspects!
Assigned to unravel the mystery is Detective Inspector Harry Falconer, well-educated, smooth and proud of his sartorial elegance. A manpower shortage teams him with well-meaning bumpkin Acting Detective Sergeant Carmichael. The assignment puts Carmichael in plainclothes for the first time in his career, and his garish, mismatched, and generally horrible attempts at plainclothes is just the first of the crosses Falconer must bear.
There are two more Falconer and Carmichael mysteries, which I've added to my Must Read list. And they're all just 99 cents apiece!

fun mystery

first in series of Insp Falconer and DS Carmichael - they are like oil and water - good book, easy read takes place in small village in England - murder mystery
I'm now on book # 3, almost done and will start books # 4
Good series, characters relationships grow along the way, good small village mysteries with some light humor
I recommend reading from book # 1 as the characters do grow with series and makes more sense if you know their relationship starts out and grows

This was one of my "Okay, it's only 99-cents and I'm in the mood for a 'Cozy British Mystery'" orders.
I lost any interest in "who-done-it" halfway through. Instead my interest was engaged with counting unnecessary, distracting commas (usually 3 where one would do), mistakes, e.g., the good old "infer" instead of "imply"; mixing up characters' names; weird chronology, e.g., how could a man in his late 70s in 2011 (when this was supposedly published) have had a fiancee during WWII? Or the detectives noticing that a sitting room was showing signs of dust and neglect since their previous visit - just 2 days before!
The descriptions of all the characters (with a few exceptions) were so snide and negative, the "bad behavior" so simplistically rude and selfish, that I started to wonder if this was perhaps written by a precocious teenager carrying a grudge. (The "humor" was certainly on that level.) So I looked up the author:
LOL! She is a late-middle-aged self-described "MENSA drop-out."
